Films & Literature
Etruria has long been the site or cradle of academic research on ancient civilisations and cultures as well as the fictional backdrop for literature, films, performances, all art forms. It is clear that the omnipresence of its wild yet varied nature is a welcome setting for all sorts of artistic medias. The numerous mythologies of the region and the conservation of traditions and ways of life have helped to contribute to the creation of modern and contemporary storytelling. The recently made film titled of In the Hand of Dante directed by the artist Julian Schnabel and produced by Martin Scorsese is living proof of this. Not: “a living proof” Unsurprisingly, many filmmakers chose this evocative setting not just as a backdrop but also as the protagonist. Here is a selection of literature and films for the curious visitor, a possibility to immerse oneself into an unknown world of culture and fables.
