Antique and Historical Sites, Gardens

Scattered on hilltops, on the shore of lakes or the sea are antique and medieval settlements that developed into towns with noteworthy churches, gardens, and castles from the early Renaissance to the 19th Century. These historical sites were part of the Grand Tour that many foreigners undertook to learn about Italian classical culture and be inspired by what they saw in such a magnificent natural setting.

Furthermore, two architectural highlights of the Renaissance are located right in the heart of Etruria: Palazzo Farnese and Villa Lante

Viterbo, the regional capital is of historical importance as it became a papal city throughout the 13th Century hosting nine popes in the famed Palazzo dei Papi.
